Fake or real?

Do you think this is fake or real?

This Indian Coin/Token was gifted to me years ago when I was young but I have no idea what it is?

Hello Everyone, I have had this coin/token since I was a child and I've always been curious about it so I figured I would ask if anyone does have any idea what this coin/token is and anything about it?

Here is the history of it. It was given to me about 15-20 years or so ago by a friend of my grandmothers mother from India from one of the times she went back home to visit her mother while going to college here in the US and she was kind enough to give it to me as a gift from one of her visits.  I did not collect coins at that age or time but always thought it was cool and held on to it.  I did a little looking a couple of years ago with no luck but I am hoping I can find something about it if nothing else what the symbol.....word??? etc is on the reverse?  Also on what appears to the be the obverse who is the figure with 4 arms with the 2 elephants in the water.

Or does is go Like the one down below these two here?

The top two pictures are how American coins are with the ovberse and reverse upside down so I assume the top 2 is correct, as you see I have no idea.

 

 I weighed it an it weighed 10.05 grams so it is a 10 gram token, coin, medallion???? I am hoping someone from google +, facebook, twitter or somewhere out there shed some light on my mystery of what I have here Thank you everyone in Advance!

OK I uploaded this picture to uoload to ebay later and thought this would be a good temp spot to stash it and get rid of it later since nobody reads this I don't rally think.  Then I realized on blogger you can't even rotate it all you can do is make is small, med lg or XL, just thought odd, have to pull out the editor now.   What is some good blogger software to use that integrates good with twitter, google plus, facebook, ebay?  etc.   Anyway jabbered too much if anyone wants the book just let me know, pay shipping it is yours unless you got something cool to trade youthink I might would like......anyway back to cleaning house. :-)

Gold 3$ Indian Princess coin (1888) 1854-1889

Its been a while I've been trying to get things organized and messing with the coins and ran across one of these.  I am thinking of getting rid of it.  Thought about selling it on ebay, it was on there a year or 2 ago but didn't sell.  Its a raw coin not graded by PCGS or NGC. It's pretty, I haven't made my mind up though.  I will post some pics of my 1888 Indian Princess gold the pic below is one I got of a PCGS MS64 off the coinfacts site.  I was in a hurry and like taking time when I take photo's of my coins, I scanned a bunch of my graded ones the other day I need to go through.  Anyway Is it not pretty?  

Since the spot price of gold has went up so much on the markets check out the prices of Indian princess gold coins from the years 1854 to 1889.  Remember this is a 5 gram coin, in between a fractional gold eagle 1/10th oz and 1/4th oz.  A couple weeks ago an AU 55 sold for $1,495 at the 2012 US Coins Signature Auction in Long Beach February 2-5.  Here are the prices from the PCGS price page for the various grades and years.

The term 'coin hoard' conjures up images of piles of coins buried somewhere in the Spanish Main by buccaneers ready to be collected on their return to England or Port of Spain. In reality coin hoards are far more mundane but they still stir the imagination of coin collectors because of the provenance they lend a coin and the possibility of getting a coin that has been 'untouched' for years and is new onto the market. In the USA coin hoards, while not common, are far more prominent in the market than here in Australia. There are many well known US coin hoards such as the Binion Hoard, the Redfield Hoard, and the Mid-West Mega Hoard. These hoards contains thousands, tens of thousands, and in the case of the Mid West Mega Hoard, millions of coins. The mystique associated with these hoards has even lead to the major third party grading companies noting the provenance of coins from major hoards on their coin holders.

Coin hoards in Australia are not so common as elsewhere, but they do occur. There are two well known hoards that I know of, and I am sure there are many more. The first is the Reserve Bank 'hoard' (or collection or accumulation). In 2005 the Reserve Bank of Australia decided that the reasons for maintaining a physical stock of gold had passed, and liquidated 5,850 Australian Sovereigns, Half Sovereigns, Adelaide Pounds, and some foreign gold coins. These were auctioned by Downies and caused a major influx of coins into the market. Another well known hoard is the 'Vienna Hoard' of the late 1980's. Many rolls of Australian florins and shillings struck in the mid 1940's were hoarded by an Austrian immigrant jeweller prior to the debasement of silver coinage to 50% silver. More than 5000 uncirculated silver coins were released onto the market from this hoard in the late 80's by a major Australian coin dealer.

Coin hoards can have an interesting effect on the coin collecting market and hobby. For example, when the US Federal Reserve disposed of millions of uncirculated Morgain and Peace dollars in the 1960's it single handedly spawned an explosion in the interest in coin collecting in the USA. Other hoards can have a significant impact on the value of existing coins on the market. For example, in 1984 only 13 Athenian Decadrachms were known to exist, however in that same year a hoard of 14 of the same type were recovered in an archaelogical dig. They were in superior condition to the already known examples and instantly devalued the coins already held by collectors. A less well known hoard (or perhaps accumulation) of Australian coins were gathered by an Australian collector who collected items from 1912, including a large number of high grade 1912 3d's. When these entered the market they immediately increased the supply of high grade coins of the type rendering catalogue values irrelevent.

One last note, and perhaps a controversial one, is a warning to the collector about the marketing techniques used by some coin dealers. Playing on the romance and mystique behind the term 'hoard' some dealers are forever discovering 'hoards'. Even if these hoards are in their very own (clearly overstocked) coin vaults! Beware of being taken in by such marketing, often items in these so called 'hoards' are available elsewhere and at a lower cost. As always do your research.
